School of Medicine Researchers Work to Develop GammaPod for Breast Cancer Therapy

Researchers in the Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore created a new system for early-stage breast cancer treatment, which might soon undergo a clinical trial.

Eight years of research and $17 million have gone into GammaPod, a 16-ton image-guided radiation therapy system that uses precise radiation beams and immobilizing breast cups to target tumors.
