Medical Device Prototyping Lab

What is the Prototyping Lab?

A fully-equipped and staffed technology development lab capable of producing physical and testable medical device prototypes. Equipment includes:

  • 3D printers
  • Rapid prototyping software
  • CAD modeling software
  • Engineering and fabrication tools

Who can use the lab?

Any UMB inventor who has disclosed their technology to the UMB Office of Technology Transfer.

Who staffs the lab?

An experienced team includes hands-on engineering support affiliated with the Robert E. Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices. UM Ventures, Baltimore provides commercialization and intellectual property expertise as well as connection to a growing list of external partners.

How can the lab support my work?

  • Commercialization: Hands-on entrepreneurship with physical, testable prototypes to validate technology concepts and build a foundation for advanced development.
  • Academic: A prototype can support academic publications and strengthen researcher grant applications.
