University of Maryland Business Model Challenge

44 teams of UMD student and faculty entrepreneur teams entered. Eleven remain. Six will present in the Finals! Forty-four teams of UMD students and faculty entered the new UMD Business Model Challenge, which takes finalists through a challenging process where they hypothesize their value proposition, get out and talk to a minimum of 25 potential customers, and pivot based upon the feedback they receive.

"What We Now Know About Startups--and How to Build Them." Edmund Pendleton, Director, Citrin Fellows Program and Assistant Director, VentureAccelerator Come learn how the world of entrepreneurship--specifically the building of high-growth, technology-based startups--has undergone a radical change in the past few years. The University of Maryland is one of a very select group of world-class universities recognized as a thought leader in this movement. If you care about startups, you cannot afford to miss this discussion. If you are building a startup, this presentation is a must.

“Lean LaunchPad, Innovation Thinking, and the Academy for Innovation and Entrepreneurship” Dean Chang, Associate Vice President for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, University of Maryland Innovation and Entrepreneurship can mean a lot of different things. Two key aspects are the Lean LaunchPad and Innovation /Design Thinking. What are they and why are they important to UMD and AIE?

The competition, now in a new format, has historically awarded more than $697,000 to companies originating at the University of Maryland since 2001.

The University of Maryland Business Model Challenge encourages UMD students, faculty and researchers to leverage their talent and ideas to create tomorrow's leading companies. The competition process, its network of expert mentors and partners and the cash prizes awarded have helped many UMD entrepreneurs act on their dreams and build their own companies.

The UMD Business Model Challenge was founded and is managed by the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute (Mtech).
