Overview
The LEGS is a portable performance-based assessment designed to assess recovery after a hip fracture by providing concrete norms that can serve as benchmarks over the course of recovery.
Applications
-Evaluate hip fracture patients in a physician's office as a part of ongoing care.
-Research and clinical scoring methods and the resulting norms of performance are useful indicators to track recovery in activities that are most relevant in the lives of hip fracture patients.
-Useful in both clinical and research settings.
Advantages
-The LEGS is easily administered, does not require special equipment, and no special training is required.
-Assessment of the patient's recovery is performance-based, not based on proxy or self-assessment.
-Increased reliability and validity compared to present technology.
-Standardized norms for purposes of comparison are available.
Stage of Development
A prospective study of 139 hip fracture patients has shown the value of the LEGS.
