Overview

Maryblyt™ is a comprehensive computer software program for predicting specific infection events and symptom development for most phases of fire blight epidemics in apples and pears. By using daily information on temperature, rainfall and other weather events along with key observations on apple or pear bud development, the program has been the principal basis for recommendations on fire blight control to Maryland fruit growers since 1989; and has resulted in a marked improvement in the level of control obtained and in a reduction in the number of antibiotic sprays applied compared with conventional treatment programs. Maryblyt™ can also be used to signal when symptoms can be found and possibly removed, or when other control measures may be appropriate.
