Overview

The Parser Converter is a computer program developed at the University of Maryland’s Center for the Advanced Study of Language (CASL). It converts descriptions of the morphology (the forms of words) of a particular language from an XML format into the format required by a particular morphological parsing engine. The input format is described by an XML schema which makes it easy for a linguist to define how the morphology of a specific language works. The converter consists of three parts: a front end that accepts an XML input and creates an internal representation of the language, a middle end that converts references between objects, and a back end that converts the internal representation into the language of the chosen parsing engine. The result is a file that can be read by that chosen parsing engine.
