To foster and support UMB’s entrepreneurial faculty, UM Ventures, Baltimore has developed specialized innovation spaces to meet the specific needs of our faculty working to advance their innovations.
Spaces
Launchpad Medical Device Prototyping Lab
The Launchpad Medical Device Prototyping Lab is a fully-equipped and staffed technology development lab capable of producing physical and testable medical device prototypes.
Equipment includes:
- 3D printers
- Rapid prototyping software
- CAD modeling software
- Engineering and fabrication tools
Launchpad Wet Lab
Located in the University of Maryland BioPark, the Launchpad Wet Lab offers UMB faculty entrepreneurs space to perform research and development to advance and de-risk their inventions. The 650 sq. ft. lab is well-appointed for molecular and cell biology discovery development.
Equipment includes:
- -80°C and -20°C freezers
- 4°C Refrigerator
- 37°C tissue culture incubator
- All volumes of pipettes
- Array of centrifuges
- Small and large shaking incubators
- Chemical fume hood
- Gel imaging system
- Validated biosafety cabinet
- Assay plate reader
- Protein and nucleic acid gel rigs
- ddH2O water purification system
- Inverted microscope
University of Maryland BioPark
Adjacent to UMB’s campus, the University of Maryland BioPark provides commercial office and wet lab space for companies of all sizes. With close proximity to the University, the biomedical research park is an ideal location for University entrepreneurs to locate their startups. 4MLK, an eight-story, 250,000 sq. ft. building slated to open in fall 2024, will include flexible lab and office space as well as support services for early-stage ventures.
